What does "AGPL-3.0" mean for me?
If you use ALEC in your product and distribute it (or offer it as a service), you must also publish your source code under AGPL-3.0. If you want to keep your code proprietary, you need a commercial license.
Which license tier do I need?
For Codec: tiers are based on your company's annual revenue. For Gateway: tiers are based on the number of instances you deploy. For Complexity: tiers are based on the number of data sources you monitor.
What is a Gateway "instance"?
A Gateway instance is one running deployment of ALEC Gateway — whether it's monitoring IoT sensors, Kubernetes metrics, industrial equipment, or any other data sources. Each instance can handle 100+ data sources.
Can I try before buying?
Yes! The open source version is feature-complete. You can evaluate it fully before purchasing a commercial license.
What about OEM / high-volume licensing?
For hardware integration, white-labeling, or deployments beyond our standard tiers, contact us for custom OEM pricing.
Do I need all three products?
No. Gateway and Complexity work great together for observability. Add Codec only if you need bandwidth compression (IoT, satellite, LoRaWAN). Many IT/DevOps teams only need Gateway + Complexity.
